One little slice of my life

I finished the River Rapids socks!

I am really happy with how they turned out, although I must say, they really are more fraternal than identical twins. Not my fault though! These were knit from the same skein of hand-dyed yarn, however, one sock ended up having 90% of the green. Weird eh? I still like them! That's one Christmas present I can cross of my list :)

I have also made some progress on my Chevalier Mittens. I really love this mitten pattern. I don't knit a lot of mittens from other people's patterns because I can make up my own pretty easily. When I was in high school I knit almost exclusively hats and mittens, so I can make up patterns in my head for both in my sleep. I gotta confess though, there is no way that I could have made this pattern up in my head! This is some serious charting and cables!

What is that luscious yarn you ask? Well that is my own handspun, and I am soooooo happy with it. It's a blend of Alpaca/Merino with bits of soy and bombyx silk mixed in. I was not wild about it when I finished plying it, thinking that it was probably overplied, but it is knitting up just perfectly. These are some of the softest, nicest mittens I have ever made.

Maggie lady,
I have some questions :) Do you know of the most simplest mitten pattern ever that even I could follow? Also, I have an angora rabbit, and hear its amazing if spun with silk...any tips on how to make that happen?
one of your fans :) Melissa

has Betsy sent you any "wool/fur" to work with?

Hi Melissa,

Truth be told, angora is very tricky to spin. You could save it up and then get someone to blend it with a nice wool and spin it for you. I might be able to do it.

Hmmm simple mitten pattern. Are you on Ravelry?

I'm not sure what Ravelry is, so I am guessing I'm not on it. I received a kit last christmas to make the mittens with the wool puff inserts (I'm sure you have a better name for it) and I looked at the pattern and then put it back in the bag. It was way over my head. So I figure it I start basic I will be able to figure out the kit.

I've got some fur saved up, he's a nice greyish white colour. If you could spin it that would be awesome...he's due for another brushing too.

Ravelry is like facebook for knitters and crocheters. It's basically a database of patterns that you can search, all the while viewing the items that other people have made from the same pattern. There are groups where you can talk about interests and forums for people to problem solve.

go to www.ravelry.com and sign up. I will look on there for a simple pattern for you.

Or you could try these, they look pretty simple. I found them on Ravelry, but also found an outside link.
